A brief overview of Municipality of Vecumnieki district
Vecumnieku municipality located in the center of Latvia, to be precise - in Zemgales planning Region, which is known as the “barn of bread”, because there is the most fertile land.
Vecumnieku district located in the European Union, the Latvian Republic. It is bordering by Biržai district municipality which locates in the Republic of Lithuania and territory is close to Riga’s region. Vecumnieki district consists of six parishes: Vecumnieki, Stelpe, Barbele, Skaistkalne, Kurmenes and Valle.
District’s administrative center is Vecumnieku village, which is located 50-70 kilometers from Latvian capital city – Riga.
The total area of Vecumnieku district is 844,4 square meters.
Vecumnieku district is rich with gypsum, peat, forest and farmland resources.
District’s area is largely made up of forests, ( 53%) and agricultural land ( 35%). Swamps takes a minor area (2%), scrub (2%), land under water (2%), built-up areas (3%) and other land (3%). As You see Vecumnieki it is territorially large rural area.
Region is crosed by railway line, through which are transported cargo from CIS countries to Ventspils.
Population in Vecumnieku district on the first of January, 2016 was 8931. Population in Vecumnieku territory in recent years has decreased, the same trend has been all over the country. Half of the population concentrates in district’s administrative center – Vecumnieki.
Vecumnieku district is not rich with large factories and developed business environment. One of the reasons could be the capital city closeness of the county, which contributes people going to work in Riga and go back to Vecumnieki afer work. More developed business sectors are wood processing, grain production, peat processing. In region there are gypsum deposits.
There are six general education institutions in Vecumieku district:
Secondary school of Vecumnieki with 339 pupil and with 168 pupil in pre-school;
Secondary school of Misa with 149 pupil and with 63 pupil in pre-school;
Secondary school of Skaistkalne with 148 pupil and with 16 pupil in pre-school;
Secondary school of Valle with 132 pupil;
Elementary school of Stepe with 59 pupil and with 22 pupil in pre-school;
Preschool educational institution “Cielaviņa” of Valle with 56 pupil.
There are Music and art school in Vecumnieki with 196 pupil. And also Sports School with 204 pupil.

A brief overview of Municipality of Ropazi district
Ropazi district is a typical peri-urban region. The total area is 326,4 km2. The number of inhabitants is around 7 000 in the whole region. Ropazi district consists of relatively small, all together 19 villages. Biggest villages are Ropazi, Silakrogs, Zakumuiza, Mucenieki, Tumsupe and Kakciems. Ropazi district is very green – 67% of the territory is covered by forests, 20% – agricultural land and 4% – swamps. In the meanwhile the administrative center of municipality, Ropazi, lies only 35 km away from capital city of Latvia – Riga.
There are two general education institutions in Ropazi district: Secondary school of Ropazi with 303 pupil and Elementary school of Zakumuiza with 301 pupil, including 114 children in pre-school groups. In village of Ropazi there is also Preschool educational institution “Annele” with 167 children and Music and Art school “Rodenpois” with 138 pupil.
There are three multifunctional centers in Ropazi district. Multifunctional centers in Silakrogs and Tumsupe were launched in 2013 and multifunctional center in Kakciems was opened in 2015. Main task of those centers is to offer local inhabitants, including youngsters, opportunity of social life enrichment by organizing educational and leisure time activities thus fostering the participation of locals in social activities.
Culture and Education center of Ropazi started its work in 2008. It organizes not only cultural events for adults, but also different youth activities, educates youngsters and promotes volunteering.
There are two sport complexes in Ropazi district – Sport center of Ropazi (since 2002) and Sport hall of Zakumuiza (since 2009). Both of these sport complexes are being used for local school purposes for pupil, as well as for after school activities and different kind of sports for adults.
Main partners at various events and activities for municipality of Ropazi are local non-governmental organizations:
x) association “Aktivi vecaki Ropazu novadam” – aims: representation and advocacy of Ropazi district children and youth interests, etc.;
x) association “Ropazu partneriba” – overall aim is to develop and form favorable living environment in Ropazi district and to increase the quality of life for local inhabitants;
x) history and reconstruction club “Rodenpoys” – the main task of the club is to reenact the history of Medieval period (14th century) in Ropazi (Rodenpoys – The Iron Son – from the Livonian language);
x) etc.

Kaunas Juvenile Remand Prison-Correction House is looking for international partners to enter the Nordic and Baltic Mobility Program for Public Administration. We are a budget office subordinate to the Prison Department under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania and it is the only such institution in the Republic of Lithuania where juveniles under arrest are kept and where convicted juveniles are serving their prison sentence. The mission of the institution is to reduce the juvenile delinquency by humanization and modernization of juvenile living environment under the conditions of isolation, to execute prevention of juvenile delinquency and their reintegration after release more effectively and justly, and to develop the conception of life in legal society. Objectives: to implement juveniles' corrective restoration of the behavior, relationships, and values, providing an opportunity for more effective reintegration and social adaptation in society after a sentence; to implement drug prevention in the facility by providing drug preventative education programs for prisoners and detainees on the issue of drug-related harm issues and shaping juveniles' hostile attitude towards drugs; implement measures to prevent drugs entering the facility; to ensure the maintenance conditions determined by laws and other legal acts for the detained and convicted juveniles; to ensure the health care for juveniles kept in the facility; guarantee general education and professional training of convicts; prepare juvenile convicts for integration into society after their penalty time is over.

In Riebini County agriculture is the main branch of occupation, here are about 3,000 farms. Agricultural land is used for cattle-breeding, cereal crops, garden crops and vegetables, mainly.
Cattle breeders’ rears cows, sheep and cows; in grain farms – barleys, oats, wheat, ryes and oilseed rape.
In the County is about 24 farms, which are engaged in forestry and wood processing.
There are popular tourism - eco-tourism and rural tourism. Potential of tourism are very large, here are a lot of opportunities to develop it.
The municipality consists of 6 districts; Riebini County council consists of 15 Deputies, which works in 4 committees: financial committee; education, culture and sport committee;social issues committee;economic and property issues committee.
